Mike Perry (Born 1960, British)
After a
postgraduate degree from Warwick business School, Mike spent 10 years in the
media business. In 1996, he gave up commerce to pursue environmental and arts
projects. He became a full time photographic artist in 1999.
In 2002 his Beach work was published on the front cover of the contemporary
photography magazine Nextlevel and in the same year he was commissioned by
huntergather along with UK artist Tom Hunter to retrace Jean Baudrillard’s
journey through ‘Astral America’.
In 2003, he was part of rsvp, a group show of emerging London artists curated by
Frieze writer Tom Morton. In May 2004, Mike had his first public solo show at
The Photographers Gallery, London, coinciding with the publication of his book
Beach by Thames and Hudson. Mike has had solo shows in Europe, has showcased
work at Photo London and Paris Photo and is represented by Yancey Richardson
Gallery in New York. In 2005, he was shown at Landscape, the 5th International
Photo Festival in Seoul in 2005.
In 2007, Mike's Inland project was shown at The Photographers Gallery and The
RSA (Royal Society For The Arts). Mike's work in West Wales was also feaured in
the BBC 4 Arts Documentary Picture of Britain.
